What you can arrange at a Dutch embassy
MVV visa sticker
After the IND approves your application, you collect the MVV sticker in your passport at the Dutch embassy or consulate – then you travel to the Netherlands.
Civic integration exam abroad
Partners joining someone in the Netherlands usually take the basic civic integration exam at a Dutch embassy before the application.
Schengen visa
Short visits of up to 90 days – for tourism, family visits or business.
Legalisation of documents
Foreign certificates such as birth and marriage certificates often need legalisation before the IND accepts them – unless an apostille applies.
Dutch nationality abroad
The option procedure, the civic integration exam for naturalisation and the naturalisation ceremony can take place at the embassy.
For Dutch citizens
Passport and ID card, consular declarations (marital status, residence, life), legalisation of signatures and a DigiD activation code.
Good to know
Not every country has a Dutch embassy – sometimes an embassy in a neighbouring country is responsible, and some embassies work with an external visa service provider. Check the embassy page for your country before you travel. In the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom, contact the local authorities.
